| The Lost Radio Tapes You know the box.
The box full of tapes.
The box that follows you around for years, then disappears.
If you're like me, the thought of
those lost tapes gives you a sleepless night from time to time.
A few months ago in the middle of one of
those nights I got an idea that eventually led me to my old box of tapes. They were in a
storage building that burned about ten years ago and they have been
sitting in a soup of decaying wood and cardboard since the fire. I threaded them up
anyway, and many of them played quite well.
This first tape was made in 1971. I had a
Zenith Trans Oceanic hooked up to a Wollensak tape recorder. The Rock of Chicago was
rolling in and out of my dorm room in Douglas, Georgia. Here is one of John Records
Landecker's first nights in the Windy City.
